- Username – your unique public identifier in BookBit

- Password – securely stored using industry-standard hashing (passwords are never stored in plain text and are not accessible to BookBit staff)
- Profile photo (optional)
1.2 Google Sign-In Information
If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive limited profile information from your Google Account, including:
- Your Google display name
- Your verified email address
- Your Google profile photo (if available)
- A unique Google account identifier (used only to authenticate your session)
We do not access your Gmail messages, contacts, Drive files, calendar, or any other Google service data. Authentication is handled securely through Google's official authentication SDK (Firebase Authentication / Google Identity Services).
1.3 Personalization & Preference Information
To personalize your reading experience, BookBit asks you to provide:
- Interested categories (e.g., self-improvement, business, psychology, fiction)
- Preferred reading language
- Country – used to provide region-relevant content, currency, and recommendations

- Book summaries viewed, opened, or completed
- Bookmarks, highlights, and notes you create

1.6 Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect precise GPS location.
- We do not access your contacts, SMS, call logs, microphone, or camera.
- We do not collect financial or payment card information directly (any future purchases are processed by Google Play Billing).
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information for the following purposes:
- To create, secure, and manage your BookBit account
- To authenticate you via email/password or Google Sign-In
- To deliver personalized book summaries, recommendations, and categories based on your interests, language, and country
- To enable social features such as comments, replies, likes, bookmarks, and highlights

- To detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, or security incidents

BookBit allows you to create public or semi-public content, including comments, replies, ratings, highlights, and bookmarks. You are solely responsible for the content you publish. We reserve the right to moderate, remove, or restrict any content that violates our community guidelines, infringes intellectual property rights, or breaks applicable laws.

You can control ad personalization at any time in your device settings: Settings → Google → Ads. You may also reset or delete your Advertising ID.
8. Data Sharing & Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers – with vetted vendors who help us operate the App (e.g., Firebase, AdMob), under strict data-processing terms
- Legal compliance – when required by law, court order, or valid government request
- Safety & security – to prevent fraud, abuse, or harm to users or the public
- Business transfers – in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to users
- With your consent – for any other purpose disclosed at the time of collection
9. Data Retention
We retain your account information for as long as your BookBit account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required for:
- Legal or regulatory compliance
- Fraud prevention and security investigations
- Resolution of disputes and enforcement of our agreements
Anonymous, aggregated analytics data may be retained indefinitely.
10. Data Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your data, including:

12. Copyright & Content Policy
BookBit provides original, rewritten educational summaries and insights inspired by published books. We do not distribute full copyrighted books, PDFs, or copyrighted excerpts. All summaries are transformed and adapted for educational, informational, and commentary purposes consistent with fair-use principles. If you believe content on BookBit infringes your copyright, please contact us with a formal takedown request.
13. Your Rights & Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Delete your account and associated personal data
- Restrict or object to certain processing activities
- Withdraw consent at any time (where processing is based on consent)
- Data portability – request a copy of your data in a portable format
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

13.1 Account Deletion
You can delete your BookBit account at any time from Profile → Settings → Delete Account, or by sending an account deletion request to bookbit@zohomail.in. Once deleted, your profile, comments, highlights, and bookmarks will be permanently removed within 30 days.
14. International Data Transfers
BookBit uses cloud infrastructure (such as Google Firebase) that may store and process data on servers located outside your country of residence. By using the Service, you consent to such transfers, which are protected by appropriate safeguards including Standard Contractual Clauses where required.
15. Third-Party Links
The App may contain links to external websites or services not operated by BookBit. We are not responsible for the privacy practices, content, or terms of those third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.
16. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by email and update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
